CAST AUDITIONS

WHO CAN APPLY:

Applications for the teenage roles are open to young people who will be aged 16 - 21 at the commencement of the rehearsal period in December 2022. (Playing age 14-15).
 

We are looking for performers who can both sing and act, with strong movement skills.
 

The Young Australian Broadway Chorus is committed to equal opportunities and welcomes diversity and inclusion across race, gender identity, sexual orientation and experience. 

CAST SUBMISSION

Performers should submit a self-tape video performing approximately 1 minute of an indie rock/indie folk song. Your audition can be recorded on a mobile phone, but make sure you can be seen and heard clearly.

 

Upload your self-tape to YouTube or Vimeo (as 'Unlisted') and include your full name in the video description. Your video URL will be included on your Submission Form when you follow the 'Submit Your Audition' link above. Be sure to watch the Self-tape Submission Guide video below for more details.

CHARACTER
BRIEF

Wendla

Innocent, but with every passing day, she grows more curious about the world around her. Both vulnerable and a willing participant in her evolution. 

 

Melchior

A smart, headstrong boy who refuses to bow down to society's rules. An atheist. Struggles with his intense feelings for Wendla. 

 

Martha 

A schoolgirl who faces constant physical abuse from her father. She harbours a secret crush towards Moritz. 

 

Moritz 

A troubled student who desperately tries to please his father, but always seems to disappoint him. Has haunting dreams. Melchior's best friend. 

 

Thea

Wendla's best friend. A schoolgirl who tries to stay innocent and pure.

 

Hanschen

A schoolmate of Melchior's who is comfortable with his own sexuality and uses his looks and intelligence to manipulate another student.

 

Anna

A schoolgirl and Martha's best friend. Has a difficult time understanding Martha's trials. 

 

Ernst

A schoolmate of Melchior's. Naive, easily manipulated. Unsure. 

 

Ilse

Martha's sister, who shares her dark secret and has run away from home to live in an artists' colony. Moritz's last hope.

 

Georg

A schoolmate of Melchoir's who is overcome with his feelings for his piano teacher.

Otto

A classmate of Melchior's who struggles with feelings he considers inappropriate. 

​

Adult Woman 

Multiple roles, including FANNY GABOR (Melchior's mother), FRAU BERGMAN (Wendla's mother), and the teacher. To play ages 35 - 50.

​

Adult Man 

Multiple roles, including HERR STIEFL (Mortiz's father), HERR GABOR (Melchior's Father), and HERR SONNENSTITCH (the boys' teacher). To play ages 35 - 50.

​

Ensemble 

Featured prominently. Will also understudy principal roles.

​

Vocal range:

The below characters all sing within G3 - E5.

Wendla, Anna, Thea, Ilsa, Martha.

 The below characters all sing within Ab2 - A4, with the exception of Otto who sings to G4.

Melchior, Moritz, Hanschen, Ernst, Georg, Otto.
